Meet the Wonderverse cast

August 6th, 2025

Say hello to Rachel, Dylan and Edgell!

As we hit the road for our Wonderverse SA regional tour this week, it is the perfect time to meet the brilliant performers bringing the show to life - Rachel Burke, Dylan Miller and Edgell Junior Edgell! Here they share with us what they love most about performing Wonderverse and what life is like on tour.

What are you most looking forward to about this regional tour?

Rachel: It's always a privilege to get out of the city and perform in regional communities. Wonderverse is theatre but not the "no-wriggling" type which I love, and I think children and adults alike will be delighted by this work that both transports and closely connects.

Dylan: Going to all the different op shops in the area and seeing what I can find.

Edgell Junior: Going on tour is always a new adventure and you never know what’s around the corner and what to except, which I really love. I’m looking forward to meeting all the new audiences, to seeing new faces and new places.

Do you have a favourite moment in the show you love performing and why?

R: One of my favourite moments is when the audience meet the fireflies. It's a treat as the performer to see joyful faces taking it all in.

D: I really enjoy being apart of the space called Forest and just watching the excitement on the kids faces when they find out they can change the colour or shape of the lights with their feet.

E: There are lots of new moments in this version of the show that I have never performed before, so I am looking forward to creating new memorable moments with the Patch audiences. I’m sure by the end of the tour I’ll have lots of new favourite moments.

What’s in your suitcase that you always take on tour?

R: My embroidery! I always make sure to pack whatever I'm currently working on so I can keep chipping away at the theatre, on a long drive or at a cafe.

D: I always take a spikey ball with me to use after sitting in a car all day and I’ve always got a speaker with me.

E: Lots of clean socks and jocks, my toothbrush and toothpaste, my Bluetooth JBL speaker so I’ve always got my music and a BIG packet of Cornflakes

How do you prepare for a show day when you’re on the road?

R: Always with some food, hopefully some yoga to warm up my body and brain and I make sure to connect with the rest of the team before a show.

D: I’m usually just listening to music and relaxing. I’m honestly trying to not think about the show so when it’s time to perform it’s fresh.

E:  As long as I’m awake, I’m always ready to go!

Have you ever performed in a regional or remote area before? What stood out to you?

R: I've had the great fortune of doing a lot of touring, all the way from Hobart up to Thursday Island and beyond. Sometimes performing in regional and remote areas means we are in a space that might be a hall or even a park, and that creates a uniquely immediate relationship with your audience that is so special.

D: In Whyalla there is a Festival called the CuttleFest, I thought that was pretty cool. They’ve also got cuttle fish boat tours.

E: I’ve been lucky enough to do loads of regional and remote touring over the last few years. What really stands out to me is the great accents, slang and different words and use of talking in the regions – I love how different it is to City folk! I also really love all the regional and small town bakeries and butchers. Once you get out of the city, it's definitely top shelf!

What do you hope children in the audience take away from this show?

R: I love how this show inspires awe. I hope children can take the spirit of curiosity and "awesome" experiences that have shaped the work and keep looking for them in the everyday

D: I just hope that they come away with a smile and something to talk about with their friends and family. Questions on how we changed the lights or how music works or even just their favourite parts.

E: I hope that children are inspired and that their imaginations are sparked by watching the show. The great thing about Wonderverse is that everyone will take away something different from the show and find their own meaning in it. That’s pretty cool.
