Patch Theatre is a proud recipient of National Touring Status Funding from the Australia Council for the Arts, in recognition of our quality of touring and innovation.
Over the years, we have accumulated an enviable collection of awards and accolades including two coveted Helpmann Awards for Best Presentation for Children, a prestigious Victor Award at the International Performing Arts for Youth (USA), assorted Critic, Innovation & Excellence Awards, a range of Touring and Export Awards and a South Australian ‘Ruby’ for Sustained Contribution to the Arts.
Patch Theatre creates theatre that transforms our 4-8 year old audience. We delight, beguile and provoke children with theatre that honours the experience of childhood, nurtures their effort to make sense of their ever expanding world and fuels the joyful and transformational power of curiosity and imagination. Patch Theatre is committed to creating art specifically for and with children at this crucial stage of their lives. We do so with rigour, respect, and playfulness because we understand the power of connection and imagination that theatre can generate, and its potential to enrich the lives of children everywhere.
We take two years to make a work in a unique, director-led, ensemble devising process with a full creative team of actors, designers, composers, musicians, technical crew as well as the children themselves. We work together in a series of intense, focused creative development periods. The theatre-making process is inquiry-driven, experimental and highly collaborative, underpinned by rigorous research, creative collaboration with scientists and expertise of early childhood specialists. The resulting theatre is fresh, unique and tailored precisely to the imagination, developmental stages and preoccupations of children aged 4-8 years old. Each work enjoys a premiere season in Adelaide before touring South Australia, nationally and internationally.
Patch Theatre currently has eight shows in repertoire and several new works in development.
