Creating Magic at Patch in 2024

February 5th, 2024

2024 has been off to a busy start as Patch creatives and collaborators work on three new works. Take a look behind the scenes at our creative development process.

Collaboration with the University of Adelaide

We're thrilled to be creating an exciting new interactive installation to mark the University of Adelaide's 150th birthday. We have just spent two weeks in the theatre discovering exciting new ways to interact with young audiences – including trialing spectacular overhead lighting displays and an interactive light forest.

Key makers include in-house lighting expert Geoff Cobham, and musician Elisha Umuhuri from DEM MOB.

Details to be announced in March.

Superluminal

The creation of this enchanting hands-on experience for 4–8 year olds is in full swing. Presented at the South Australian Museum, Superluminal is a theatrical installation full of Patch's renowned interactive light-play. The experience is shaping up to be a glorious adventure for young and old.

Our schools' season is on-sale now with family dates to be announced in April.

Glow & Tell: First Nations edition

We are working with local artists Jakirah and Tikana Telfer to create a new version of our in-school experience Spark: Glow & Tell.

Glow & Tell experiences are created by artists who share their own unique stories exploring themes of family and culture. Our current repertoire features Edgell's story about his cousin embarking on an adventure in Vanuatu, and Evyenia sharing her Greek heritage in a story about her little sister’s birthday at the beach. We are excited to expand on this to include a celebration of Kaurna culture.

Jakirah and Tikana's show will share Kaurna stories while introducing students to local language. The creative process has just begun and we are hoping to launch this new version in schools in late 2024.
