Getting Creative at Patch

October 16th, 2023

We've been busy in our rehearsal space developing two new interactive installations for 2024 – Superluminal and a yet to be announced experience.

Superluminal blends bold visual design, collaborative storytelling and interactive play to create an engaging interactive installation premiering at the South Australian Museum in 2024.

Superluminal Creative Development

In-house creatives Geoff Cobham, Maddog Delaney and Alex Hatchard were joined by Melbourne-based artist Zoë Barry for the early stages of Superluminal creative development. Zoë is an acclaimed cellist, composer, sound artist, performance maker and educator. She has a long-history of collaboration with Geoff Cobham and Patch and is a core member of the Superluminal creative team.

A handful of lucky children had the first look at the work at our home in Kent Town. The children went on a fossil-foraging adventure, imagined the thoughts of dinosaurs, created magical shadows and more. Their audience feedback will play an essential role in the next rounds of development

Superluminal has been made possible thanks to a collaboration grant from Arts South Australia.

Creating magic with DEM MOB

We are thrilled to be collaborating with DEM MOB on an exciting new work commissioned by the University of Adelaide premiering in 2024.

DEM MOB are an Aboriginal hip hop group formed in Pukatja APY lands in northern South Australia. Young front men Elisha Umuhuri and Jontae Dare are the first rappers to perform and record in the ancient Pitjantjatjara language, challenging expectations and becoming community role models along the way.

Elisha James Umuhuri from DEM MOB recently spent two days at Patch with Artistic Director Geoff Cobham and Technician Alex Hatchard working on some epic beats and lighting magic.

More details about this new interactive work for children – including additional creatives – will be revealed in the coming months.
