Winter Wanders 2026

August 8th, 2023

If you’ve been wondering what Patch has been up to lately, the short answer is: a lot! Here’s a look at what we've been doing this winter.

In just 9 weeks, Patch Theatre has taken our work from Adelaide to Sydney, Brisbane, Townsville, Auckland and Taiwan, performing for more than 17,000 children, families and educators along the way.

Here’s a look at what our incredible team has achieved!

Me & My Shadow at the Space Theatre, Adelaide (August)

Our Adelaide season of Me & My Shadow saw original performers and creators Nathan O'Keefe and Astrid Pill reunite for this show for the first time since its premiere in 2010. Across 34 performances, we welcomed more than 7,600 audience members to the Space Theatre, including 101 schools and over 6,100 students and teachers. It was incredible seeing so many families and children enjoying one of our most beloved productions back on the stage once again.

ZOOOM at Wild Things Festival, Sydney Opera House (September)

This season of ZOOOM was presented at Sydney Opera House’s inaugural International Children’s Festival, Wild Things. As the first ever act at the festival, we took to the stage for 14 performances to 4,210 audience members at one of the world’s most iconic venues. Miranda Daughtry also debuted in the show assisted by Katya Shevstov and Alex Hatchard behind the scenes.

Glow & Tell in Queensland (August/September)

Glow & Tell veterans Edgell Junior Edgell and Evyenía Stefanidis headed up to sunny Queensland for a couple of seasons.

In August, Edgell Junior spent a few days at QPAC (Queensland Performing Arts Centre) in Brisbane, performing 41 times to around 500 children before heading off on a tour of rural Queensland. To send one of our shows to such deep regional area was a real privilege, with most of those children experiencing a live performance for the first time.

Then in September, Evyenía also headed up to HOTA (Home of the Arts) on the Gold Coast where she performed to around 800 children over 30 sessions.

Sea of Light at North Australian Festival of Arts, Townsville (September – October)

Sea of Light was shared with over 1,300 audience members. Luke Furlan, on his first season with Patch, headed up North with tech Ayden Martin to bring immersive, child-centred theatre to a community that doesn’t always get access to this kind of work.

Wonderverse at We the Young Festival, Auckland (September – October)

Wonderverse headed off to Aotearoa New Zealand on its very first international season! Edgell Junior Edgell, Ellen Steele and Georgia Blizzard performed to over 1,000 audience members, supported by Eloise Holoubek behind the scenes.

Me & My Shadow in Taiwan (October)

Me & My Shadow travelled overseas to perform for 1,600+ audience members across 4 performances, and it is always incredible to see our productions working for international audiences. We enjoyed an incredible few days in Taiwan, with a show blessing and seeing the sights.

Why it matters

In just 9 weeks, Patch Theatre reached more than 17,000 children and families, travelled over 15,000km across Australia and overseas, and performed 5 of our productions 178 times.

These numbers show the demand for our work and what a very small team can deliver. In just a few weeks, we welcomed an audience equal to 34% of our average annual total, in schools, at festivals and in regional communities across South Australia, around the country and overseas.

Every one of those audience members was a child experiencing live, imaginative theatre, often close to home and often for the first time.

Thank you to everyone who made these tours possible, and who delivered our work with such care and quality. 💙
